Tell-tale Heart Rewrite
"It started when that stupid rat came home "
I had taken my little sister to the pet store to buy more food for her menagerie of animals when she saw the rodents. How live mice can be cute after seeing them go head first down the gullet of a snake is beyond me. But believe you me; she almost threw herself to the floor in a fit when I insisted she couldn't have one. There she stood with her big ole baby blues that she got from Mom which were full of unshed tears. She stuck her lip out and it started to quiver then she started to whimper and it was then that I knew she would scream for that stupid rodent.
"Fine then," I hissed,
the sky growled,
falling over itself
in its haste
to get away.
the children
gathered at the window
watching the delicate snow
and listening to the
Growling.
the wind
started Howling
like a demon
in the growing night.
they were sent to bed
and when settled,
they curled up together
to listen to the Beast.
as they dreamt of
white puffy powder,
it was coming fast,
like a swarm
of hornets.
it buried everything,
Everything in sight.
cold,
deadly,
suffocating.
the children woke up
and marveled at the white wonderland.
they would have all day
to play
In
the
Snow
